As the NRV navigates the pandemic, The Millstone Kitchen and HazelBea Catering have been combining their efforts to put meals on the tables of neighbors in need, to support local small business, and to support local farmers – all with local donations.

For every $10 donated to The Millstone Kitchen, a nonprofit shared-use commercial kitchen in Montgomery County, one meal is distributed to a local hunger relief agency. HazelBea Catering prepares the meals featuring ingredients purchased from local farmers, which means that operations of multiple small businesses are supported with every meal. In one week, HazelBea was able to donate 120 meals to two regional agencies: Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread and the NRV Diaper Pantry.

Donations also help The Millstone Kitchen’s shared use kitchen facility keep their doors open to local small food business owners and provide them with assistance, like free workshops and startup services, during and after this crisis.

The Millstone Kitchen hopes to continue expanding their program to other food access organizations to distribute food to community members in need.
