Habitat of the NRV and the New River Valley TimeBank are teaming up to host a Repair Cafe at the Habitat ReStore in Christiansburg on October 14th.
For the last few generations our culture has tended to just throw consumer goods away when they break, creating an environmentally unsustainable practice. In response, Repair Cafes have sprung up across the globe.
Habitat of the NRV and the New River Valley TimeBank are teaming up to host a Repair Cafe at the Habitat ReStore in Christiansburg. The NRV’s first Repair Café will take place on October 14, from 9am-3pm at the Habitat ReStore at 1675 Franklin St. in Christiansburg. The public is invited to bring their broken household items to the event for diagnosis and hopeful repair. A team of skilled volunteers will be on-site to provide repair assistance with small electrical appliances, furniture, sewing, IT/computer support and knife sharpening. If the repair diagnosis is beyond the capability of the volunteers, owners will be directed to reputable local businesses that specialize in repairs.
