The Town of Blacksburg, Town of Christiansburg, and Montgomery County have been working together since the summer to implement five grant programs: small business, nonprofit, childcare, dining expansion, and hotels/motels. The goal of these grant programs was to provide support to as many sectors of the local economy as possible with available funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

It is estimated that these localities will provide approximately $370,000 to 40 nonprofits, $725,000 to 110 small businesses, $280,000 to 7 childcare centers, $360,000 to 33 restaurants, and $350,000 to hotels. The most recent program – the dining expansion grant – allows restaurants to purchase or rent tents, heaters, or other infrastructure to increase customer safety and extend their outdoor dining season.
