XL Recordings contacted Adele, initially thinking they were interested in offering her a job in artist and repertoire (A&R).To her surprise, they expressed interest in signing her as an artist.

Record label boss Richard Russell attended one of her small west London gigs and was impressed by her confidence as a performer. Adele’s debut album, titled ‘19’ (reflecting her age when she recorded it), was released in 2008.

Adele appeared to confirm these rumors during her Album of the Year winning speech at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards by addressing Simon as “my husband” in her expression of gratitude. In March 2017, she announced to the crowd, “I’m married now,” during a concert in Brisbane, Australia. They actually got married in 2018 and divorced the same year, she disclosed in a 2021 interview with British Vogue. Adele switched became a stay-at-home mother during this period. Adele’s agents confirmed the split with the Associated Press in April 2019 and stated that she and Simon would keep raising their son together .
