Harlem Moped Rider Dies in Hit-And-Run Incident in Belmont-Norwood Man Arrested

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), a 35-year old Harlem man has died in a crash involving a moped in Belmont-Norwood Man Arrested.

On Friday, February 16, at approximately 7:39 pm, police said they received a 911 call about a car accident at East 183rd Street near Park Avenue.

Upon arrival, police said they found a male of 35 years old, conscious and unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services were called and the victim was taken to St Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Further investigation revealed that the man was riding a gas-powered two-wheel moped south on Park Avenue when he crossed East 183rd Street and collided with a black sedan traveling east on East 183rd.

According to police, the driver of the sedan did not return to the scene.

Police said the car was last seen turning right onto Washington Avenue off of East 183rd street. No arrests have been made at this time.

The New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Highway District’s (CIS) Collision Investigation Team (CIT) continues to investigate the incident.

The deceased has been confirmed as Williams Cruz (35) of Harlem, According to police. On Saturday, February 17, police said that they had arrested a 25-year-old man in Norwood, Hull Avenue, on suspicion of vehicular homicide. The arrest was made at approximately 1:30 p.m.

According to police, Galvan was arraigned on charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular failure, and operating a vehicle without a valid license. A person accused of a crime is innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

When conducting a CIS investigation, the New York Police Department (NYPD) takes care of all criminal aspects, while the New York City DOT (New York City Department of Transportation) looks into the design of the streets at the scenes of such accidents.

On Saturday night, February 17, no one was injured in a fire at a Belmont auto repair store.
